The funnel sits on the 51 mm portafilter via a bayonet mount and catches every last bit of coffee grounds. The trick: it grips onto the three tabs on the outside, leaving the inside completely clear. You tamp straight through the funnel, without taking it off.

The Workflow
The funnel sits above the basket and channels the ground coffee entirely into it. What would otherwise land next to the portafilter now stays in the coffee. That saves grounds and the wiping round afterwards.
The inside stays completely clear, because the funnel grips onto the three closure tabs of the portafilter from the outside rather than inside. Even a WDT tool has enough room.
Tamp directly
Because there's no edge in the way inside, you tamp straight through the funnel. You don't need to remove it to compress the grounds, they stay exactly where you distributed them.
